Introducing Cetviny/Zettwing

Cetviny (German: Zettwing) is a former market town located in the cadastral area of Dolní Dvořiště, where more than 500 predominantly German inhabitants lived in 120 houses immediately after the end of World War II. After the forced departure of the German population, the town fell into decline and was almost completely destroyed in the 1950s. Only the church, fountain, customs house, and two houses adapted for the needs of the border guard unit were not demolished. After 1990, the Cetviny area was reopened to the public after almost 40 years of closure in the border zone.  

This website will introduce you to the history of Cetviny from its founding to the present day and show you interesting places in Cetviny and the surrounding area. It also provides information about relevant events. 

The story of Cetviny is not unique. After the war, approximately 3 million citizens of German nationality were forced to leave what was then 
Czechoslovakia, and about 1,200 villages were destroyed. The specific fates of these places are still little known today.
